Announcement - Appointment of Information Technology Security Officer |
I am pleased to announce that Mr. Gordie Mah has accepted the position of Information Technology Security Officer (ITSO) effective March 9, 2009.
Gordie holds a Masters of Science (specializing in Information Assurance) from Norwich University in Vermont, USA. He also has the designations of Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Prior to this appointment, he worked in Edmonton as the IT Security Team Lead for the Alberta Cancer Board and as a Security Advisor for Alberta Health and Wellness.
The ITSO is a newly established position that will provide a senior leadership role on campus to maintain the integrity and safety of the University's information and communication technology assets. Among Gordie's responsibilities will be the development and communication of University-wide information technology security policies and procedures, the communication and enforcement of information security standards to the faculties, departments, and service units, and the development of processes to ensure compliance with standards. Gordie will also provide advice on University information security policies, provincial and federal information security regulations and standards, and emerging security issues and threats.
Please join me in welcoming Gordie to the University.
