Re:  Interim Dean of the School of Public Health

I am writing to follow up on my announcement of May 31, 2011 regarding Dr. Sylvie Stachenko’s decision to step down as Dean of the School of Public Health, effective June 1, 2011. As I indicated, Sylvie made her decision to step down for personal and professional reasons and will be pursuing work on collaborative national and international projects during her administrative leave.

Dr. Lory Laing graciously agreed to serve as Acting Dean for the period of June 1, 2011 to July 31, 2011. Given the demands of the scheduling of Dean searches already established for 2011-2012, I will need to appoint an Interim Dean for the School for a total period of 18-24 months (with a new Dean to begin either January 1 or July 1, 2013).

At this time I am inviting you to write to me with your nominations for individuals, either within the School or within the University community, to serve as Interim Dean. For your information, Lory has indicated to me that she would be willing to continue as Interim Dean in a post-retirement capacity should her colleagues wish to nominate her.

I would appreciate receiving your nominations by Friday, June 24, 2011 (an e-mail would be fine at carl.amrhein@ualberta.ca) and please copy Donna Herman, Special Advisor to the Provost at donna.herman@ualberta.ca.
