Interim Chief Librarian |
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Kathryn Arbuckle as Interim Chief Librarian, effective March 30, 2012. Many of you who know Kathryn will agree she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this important role.
Since 1999, Kathryn has held a joint appointment between the University of Alberta Libraries and the Faculty of Law as the Law Librarian at the John A Weir Memorial Law Library. She has also served as Acting Head of the Rutherford Library, and is currently Acting Associate University Librarian for Collections. Kathryn has served two terms as Treasurer of the Canadian Library Association, and is a Past President of the AASUA. Kathryn has been actively involved in the development of the Library’s strategic plan and is committed to seeing it move forward.
Kathryn will serve as Interim Chief Librarian for up to two years. In making this appointment, I have given careful consideration to the input I have received from many members of the Library community. I sincerely thank you for the thoughtful and constructive feedback you have provided. I am encouraged by the depth of passion and commitment you continue to demonstrate to the University of Alberta library system.
As I mentioned at our recent town hall meeting, I have initiated the process of recruiting and selecting the next Chief Librarian. In early April, I will be recommending that the GFC Executive Committee approve changes to the update the composition of the Chief Librarian Selection Committee. Further details will be available in the near future regarding the process for electing members to the Committee.
Mary-Jo Romaniuk will be commencing her administrative leave at the end of this month. I would like to express my appreciation to Mary-Jo for her commitment and contributions as Acting Chief Librarian, and wish her success in the completion of her PhD studies.
